Wow, I can't believe I am so behind on this post. I'm actually up late writing it out. (You should feel privileged.) Let's see if I can remember what went on....
At five months:
-likes to splash in the bath
-laughs when tickled on feet, thighs, and under arms
-wears size 1 diapers disposable
-wears 3-6 month clothes, but the pants fall off if wearing a disposable diaper
-working on sitting, still a little unsteady
-getting better at tummy time
-still only takes short naps (3-4 a day)
-sleeps from 9 pm to 4 am, eats, and then back to sleep until 7ish
-finally gaining some weight after some close monitoring
-takes 4 bottles of pumped milk and nurses twice a day (4 am and 7 am)
Weight: 13lbs, 1 oz (a week before he turned 5 months)
This past month has been hard. We went back to the doctor to check on weight gain and he had only gained 2 ounces in 2 weeks. So, we did a week of exclusive pumping. I had to track exactly how much he was taking at each feeding. After the week, he had gained 8 ounces! So, the doctor thinks that he may just not be an effective nurser. He has recommended that I pump exclusively, but I have made the decision (for now) to still nurse 2 times a day. Pumping at 4 am was killing me! It's still hard, but we are getting used to it. We may have to go to all pumping at some point. but for now we are monitoring his weight at home and this seems to be working. Thankfully, no formula was suggested. Our next adventure is food!
Heath is such a happy boy! Everyone comments on how pleasant and happy he seems all of the time. I have even taken him to a work meeting and he was a perfect little angel. He's definitely active and has opinions, but his smile will melt your heart!
